How to make the Hariko

1. Using 2 kinds of “Getto” papers (handmade 100% Sell Ginger paper/Alpinia zerumbet (this is the Okinawan traditional paper) in my Atelier.
2. Paste total 6 Getto papers on mold.
Put the glue one by one. After that dry completely and paste 3 Getto papers carefully.
3. Paste another 3 Getto papers on mold and dry completely, again.
4. Take out the mold using cutter and spatula tools.
5. Removed from the mold.
6. Paste the cut part using glue and dry it.
7. Until the Getto paper dry completely, prepare the Getto papers (Machine-made 100% Sell Ginger paper) for the products. The machine- made Getto papers are thicker comparing the handmade one.
8. Put the Gohun (it’s the powder used for painting called whitewash, made by seashell) into the Hariko for spindle in order to make a balance. After that make a hole for the bamboo skewer.
9. Put the Gohun into the Hariko as needed.
10. Mix Gohun and animal glue.
11. Completed the first step for pasting Gofun and this processing do again and again. Draw using pigments for Hariko and finally completed!
